Can I tell you a secret? As much as I love blog hopping and leaving comments, I can’t stand Word Verification AKA Captcha. Simple math problems (like addition and subtraction) for captcha is OK but with multiplication and division, give me a calculator! haha The worst of its kind is the one from Blogger blogs. Like this one:
It strains my already strained eyes! I tell you, that one is good looking, I have encountered some captcha that almost took my eyeballs out! Yikes!
So please blogger friends, give the blogging world some love by removing or disabling your captcha. Here’s how!
Go to your dashboard> www.blogger.com
Click on the blog that you want to edit (if you have many blogs). Go to settings then post and comments section:
Who can comment?
If you want to include NAME/ URL option on the comment section, choose ANYONE can comment, bad part is, even anonymous can comment. For me, it is still the best option because in a way you are giving back to the bloggers commenting on your blog by letting them leave their links through the name/ url option.
Comment Moderation?
If you’ll be disabling CAPTCHA/ word verification on your comment section, please make sure that you moderate comments ALWAYS.
Show Word Verification>> NOOOOOOOOO (please… please.. pretty please)
Some people enable the word verification to prevent spam comments but since you can moderate the comment, that would give you an option.. but I know, it sucks to delete hundred and hundreds of comments.
So folks and dear blogger friends, that is why WordPress rocks better than Blogger! hahaha
Jerome Lupisan says
April 14, 2014 at 9:48 pmI hate that too.
Kimberly Grabinski says
April 14, 2014 at 10:07 pmI understand the need to prevent spam but those complicated captchas have kept me from commenting on blogs before. I have written long, though out comments only to have an error in the captcha and the comment disappears! So I stopped commenting altogether if there is a captcha. Like you said, comment moderation can prevent the publication of spam.

April 14, 2014 at 10:23 pmI’m with you on the captcha thing. I hate the ones that you can’t really read anyway and it takes me several times to get it right. I use Akismet spam protection on my site and I moderate all comments. So I’ve been able to stay away from Captcha for now.

April 14, 2014 at 10:26 pmGreat tutorial I hate spam as a blogger but as a regular reader I hate more dealing with captcha every time I try to leave comment. I know it gives bloggers a more work to do but makes our readers feel a little bit more hassle free.

April 14, 2014 at 10:44 pmThanks so much for sharing

April 14, 2014 at 11:02 pmAnonymous comments are the worst! I get at least 4 a day sometimes up to 40 :(. I too like that anyone can comment on my blog, but some days its a pain deleting all those spam messages.

April 14, 2014 at 11:15 pmCaptcha is definitely not my favorite!

April 14, 2014 at 11:16 pmThank you for this I ALWAYS wondered how you turn off Captcha, it irritates me when I’m on my Iphone so I wanted to turn off the one on my blog. Now I know where to find it.

April 14, 2014 at 11:16 pmI really dislike CAPTCHA! I love to blog hop and leave comments, interact, enter giveaways, etc but I hate having the “enter the codes/pictures”!
Suzi Satterfield says
April 14, 2014 at 11:32 pmI wish that all bloggers would disable those awful captchas. The only “verification” things that I’m okay with are the “check if you’re human” box and the “finish this math problem” box.

April 14, 2014 at 11:34 pmRemoving the captcha is one of the best things one can do for increasing blog comments! Great tutorial, I hope more people see it.

April 14, 2014 at 11:49 pmReading Captcha can still be difficult especially when the characters are not clear.
Jennifer @ The Jenny Evolution says
April 14, 2014 at 11:50 pmI can’t tell you how much Captcha drives me crazy! Often, I’ll abandon a comment just because the system is annoying. If a blogger really wants comments, she’ll learn how to manage the spam without making it harder for her readers.
Scott says
April 15, 2014 at 12:11 amCaptchas are horrible, I hate them too. And they do not work. There are so many better options out there, I’m surprised Google hasn’t implemented them.

April 15, 2014 at 1:18 amThanks for sharing this. People need to get out with CAPTCHA. I understand the why but, it really turns readers away.

April 15, 2014 at 1:18 amI HATE captcha boxes, I try to refrain from leaving comments on blogs that use this – takes too much time. There are many other options out there I do not know why bloggers use these.

April 15, 2014 at 1:34 amThank you for posting this. I understand the usefulness of the captchas, but it’s very frustrating when the images are difficult to see.

April 15, 2014 at 1:39 amI find the verification very annoying. In fact, my biggest pet-peeve are the words. It’s impossible to figure out what letters they are, so you keep entering the word and guessing. Awful! I use wordpress, but I will let my blogger friends know about this. 🙂
Kayla @ TheEclecticElement says
April 15, 2014 at 1:39 amI understand the use of a CAPTCHA but I also hate their number-laden guts!! Especially late at night when I can’t really see the number keys cause it’s dark and I have to strain my eyes just looking for 1 number let alone the 10 to 12 they want you to type in o.O
Leelo R says
April 15, 2014 at 3:14 amI hate captcha! I especially hate it when the blog owner will manually approve every comment anyway! So I hope this post will be helpful for some!

April 15, 2014 at 5:03 amI wish everyone had it disabled. Nothing turns me off more from leaving a comment then having to do that verification, I sometimes abandon my comment in that case.
Mommy Pehpot says

April 15, 2014 at 6:54 amGreat tips for the newbie bloggers! I know blogger auto implements the captcha, so people don’t even realize it’s on until they notice no one commenting on their posts because viewers don’t want to type in a bunch of scrambled numbers/letters.
Mommy Pehpot says
April 15, 2014 at 7:02 amyes that’s true, so it really helps if someone would point it out to them 🙂

April 15, 2014 at 8:24 amI did turn the word verification off because it’s annoying to commenters. But even without it, I still get less (almost no) spam comments in Blogger as compared in WP.

April 15, 2014 at 8:40 amYup, I use Akismet but I still receive a lot of spam comments. I also tried entering their IP addresses to be blocked on the Discussion section. New IP addresses keep on adding every day.

April 15, 2014 at 8:47 amSame here, CAPTCHA is one of my blogging pet peeves! I just hate seeing random numbers or letters and they are sometimes hard to read. Bloggers can put all comments on moderation instead of enabling the CAPTCHA.
Mommy Pehpot says
April 15, 2014 at 9:04 amyes they should 🙂

Diane @ Philzendia says
April 15, 2014 at 11:24 amI won’t leave comments period if there’s a captcha, regardless if I’m doing a blog hop. Another thing I hate is when people on blogger blogs don’t offer the option of leaving a comment using the name and URL option. I’m not going to register just so I can leave a comments, and I doubt other less web savvy people will be that hard pressed to do so either.

Kimberly says
April 15, 2014 at 12:15 pmI understand that captcha is a great way to keep the spammers at bay but I so hate having to fill them out. When I leave comments I normally want the process to be quick and easy and having to squint at my screen to figure out what letters or numbers are in that little box just makes the whole process a bit less fun. Turning it off or going with an alternate commenting system is definitely the better route to take I believe.
Erin S. says
April 15, 2014 at 12:36 pmYeah! Now if only all bloggers would do this! You can moderate all comments to avoid the spammy ones. I hate captchas.

April 15, 2014 at 3:40 pmI know, I know, my captcha was on. Haha. but that’s just till yesterday. Okey, I just took it down after seeing your post. lol. Seriously, it also gives me a lot of headache especially the word captcha interlaced with each other and figuring out the letters for long hours and try and try till you guess it right. I I put captcha when my blog was then visited by thousands spam comment. So I put a restriction. Since yesterday after reading this post, I check from time for some anonymous, luckily, there’s none even if comment is open to anyone. 🙂

April 15, 2014 at 8:34 pmGreat post!!! I know that captcha is a great way to eliminate spam comments but it’s a hassle for people. I learned from expert bloggers that you should make your site ‘comment friendly’.
P.S. A great advantage of self-hosted blog is the plugin Akismet which do spam filters without using captcha.
