First born complained of tooth ache.. err no.. he was not just complaining, he’s wailing! He asked for tooth extraction.. he said he can’t bear the pain anymore..poor kid ๐
Before we went to the dentist, I asked a few friends kung safe ba magpabunot ng ngipin kahit masakit or kung may maga?ย
Most of the answered no and the dentist said the same thing. Why? according to the dentist, the anesthesia won’t work if the patient is experiencing pain.. eh kung mataas ang pain tolerance? Hindi pa rin safe.. why?
The dentist explained that when an abscessed tooth is pulled out, the pus in the infection can go inside the root and can lead to a more serious infection. The dentist advised that my son take antibiotics for the infection and pain killer for the pain.
She prescribed Amoxicillin and Dolfenal for pain. She said to continue taking Dolfenal for 2 days even if there is no more pain since the med is also anti inflammatory.
ย Dolfenal contains mefenamic acid and is used for: (from Unilab website)
- For the symptomatic relief of mild to moderately severe pain including headache, dental pain, post-operative and postpartum pain, primary dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, and pain associated with cancer;
- For the symptomatic relief of musculoskeletal and joint disorders including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis;
- For the treatment of soft tissue rheumatism, sprain/swelling of tendons (tendonitis) and low back pain
Still, he can’t have tooth extraction when the pain and the infection subsides.. according to the dentist, he needs to wait until he’s 12 before an extraction can be done. And to prevent tooth ache from happening again, the dentist advised the use of Mouthwash often and of course proper care of teeth such as brushing after eating.

January 17, 2014 at 8:13 amTooth extractions are no fun. ๐ I was fortunate to have all four of my wisdom teeth extracted at the same time while under anesthesia, and when my six year old son needed four teeth extracted and a root canal, he too was under general anesthesia; but my husband was awake for his. Blah. :/ Antibiotics really are important to combat infection, and painkillers are a must for pain relief. Also, too many antibiotics can result in bacterial imbalance, which can trigger thrush or a yeast infection – so some probiotics are good to have around too!

January 17, 2014 at 2:38 pmOh my! I think the dentist will know best what to do with cases as such. I’m not sure if it’s safe or not but from other’s experience, I think the dentist waits for the abscess to go before doing the extraction.

January 17, 2014 at 6:04 pmThat is true. My son had to wait for a week before his tooth was extracted. Mas delikado nga daw kasi dahil sa abscess at mas masakit rin.

January 17, 2014 at 9:57 pmOh, same case with my second. She kept blaming me for her toothache cuz I am not bringing her daw to the dentist. Eh I told her the pain has to go away first before the dentist makes bunot. Painkiller ka muna I said. But I will be bringing her tomorrow for the antibiotics

April 11, 2014 at 1:10 pmHmmmm….pain from teeth really is something. It’s not that a kid should be 12 before tooth extraction coz our personal dentist advice extraction rather than going through pains. A child must at least be 7 to be qualified for tooth extraction. Also, yearly or twice there should be OP or cleaning so that teeth will be monitored.
