Hello October! This month is my birthday month as a mom.. 10 years of motherhood, 10 years of bliss, diaper change and 10 years of learning…sleepless nights included. Four kids in a row and you’ll know what I mean. Well, 10 years after, I can almost say goodbye to sleepless nights (uhm motherhood related but not work related haha). It was the hardest with my new born since he was colic but gets better with every child.
They say I’m a super mom, being able to handle four kids and I would always answer, “sanayan lang yan.” Of course it is not just about getting used to it, it’s more like learning from it.. observing and trying to come up with a better solution..as the qoute above said (which I got from Pampers FB Page), it’s about swimming and learning to swim at the same time. And 10 years of motherhood has taught me a lot of things like how to deal with common reasons why babies wake up at night. I know that sleep is very important to baby’s development and growth so I am bothered when the kids are not having enough sleep. Based on my experience with my four kids, the most common reason why they wake up at night are discomfort, change in routine and over stimulation or too much activity during the day.
When it comes to discomfort, my kids usually wake up because of room temperature. Most of the times, the room is too warm for them to have a good night sleep. Of course, the easiest way to resolve that is to buy a new air conditioning unit, which we did.
my happy sleepers 🙂
Wetness and diaper leakage is another form of discomfort but it was never a problem for us. When I asked a few moms I know, they say that the most common reason why their baby wakes up at night is hunger. Obviously, we all know that to provide the best possible care for our babies, specially at night, is trust a diaper brand that can protect our babies’ complete sleep against wetness.
I also noticed that when we travel or have a change in our daily routine, their sleeping patter changes too. They wake up at night feeling irritated. The same thing happens when they have too much activity during day time. Like when we went to La Union last summer and the two boys tried surfing while Chico and Sati went swimming all day. They had a hard time sleeping and woke up twice during the night.
How about you mommies? Are you keen on the reasons why your baby wakes up at night? And what are you doing to prevent them from waking up at night?Â

October 7, 2013 at 1:57 pmI had a difficult time putting my eldest to sleep when she was very young. No amount of singing lullabies could lull her to sleep, she needs to be held in order to sleep. Ganun ang routine until she was about two ata.
By the way, I love Chico and Sati’s photo. 🙂

October 7, 2013 at 2:53 pmI agree with the things you have mentioned here. Si Ren nung baby kaya nagigising kasi wet sya due to diaper leak. Buti tapos na ko sa problemang yun, at ngayon pareho na kaming mahaba ang tulog 🙂

October 7, 2013 at 3:25 pmBaby’s first month I think is the hardest stage because both the parents and baby are adjusting thus the sleepless nights. Giving the baby a warm bath, nursing him and using the right brand of diaper would help to give the baby a good night sleep.
Hats off to you. I don’t think I could handle 4 kids.

October 8, 2013 at 11:38 amJust like your sons, Justin has a hard time sleeping at night when he’s had too much daytime activities, physical or otherwise.

October 8, 2013 at 4:11 pmI have two kids, they usually wake up late at night because they are hungry and so I gave them milk, but another reason too is discomfort. Yung parang hindi maganda ang feeling nila dahil sa diaper na ginagamit nila. So maingat talaga ako sa pagpili ng diaper kasi isa din pala sya sa rason kung bakit hindi tuloy2 ang tulog ng mga anak ko

October 8, 2013 at 10:33 pmOh I’m not a Dad yet (well, hopefully not yet) but I took care of my siblings when they were young and geez I guess wet diapers would always mean getting up at 2-3 am.

October 9, 2013 at 7:17 amYou do offer great tips for parents, specifically mothers. Yes, discomfort and over stimulation does disturb a child’s sleeping pattern.

October 9, 2013 at 10:12 amAs far as I remember, when my son was still a baby, he woke up at night when there’s a diaper leak. But now that he’s 3, he’s completely potty trained and he’ll wake na lang at night para magwiwi or drink water.

October 9, 2013 at 9:37 pmMy 3 year old will wake up in the middle of the night to cry or laugh, depends on the highlight of the day. The activities of the day is repeated in his dreams. We all try not to make him cry during late afternoon as he dreams about it at night.

October 9, 2013 at 9:37 pmI don’t have a kid yet but I noticed that my niece usually wakes up when the room is too warm too or when she’s not feeling really well. 😉 About the diaper thing, it’s nice that there are brands that could last the whole night. Atleast the baby (and mom) could sleep w/o having to change diapers.

October 9, 2013 at 9:45 pmMy wife is the best and practical mom so far I know. She knows what to do not let our kids wake up at night. She let them feel comfortable, feed them enough, and always check their bedding, among others.

October 9, 2013 at 9:47 pmI’m not a mother yet, but I have a grandson (from a nephew) who I used to babysit a lot. There were times when he’d be so awake at night, or would simply wake up late. That’s when I was told that he was overstimulated during the day.

October 9, 2013 at 10:37 pmI also notice that my daughter’s sleep pattern is disrupted whenever she’s excited over a holiday getaway or party she’s looking forward to the next day.
In such cases, it helps preparing the bedroom–dim light and using lavander scents–to make it conducive to sleeping.

October 10, 2013 at 6:59 amI thought that using a pacifier for babies might be helpful but then they can also become reliant to the tool.

October 10, 2013 at 1:13 pmWell taken points. Room temperature is a vital factor why babies suffer from sleep disorders like waking up late at night.

October 11, 2013 at 12:31 pmYes I also think room temperature is one big factor that causes babies to wake up at night. (I used to take care of my lil siblings)

October 12, 2013 at 9:24 ami think sleepless nights always come with being a mum! i also had my share of those changing diapers + preparing milk for my little one. now, am thankful that i do not have to change his diapers as he is fully potty-trained, what i am worried about is Jared accidentally peeing in the middle of the night as he no longer uses diapers 🙂
