We have been renting since time immemorial OK I was just kidding. We have been renting for about 8 years now. Of course, we do have a plan of building our own house (next year perhaps haha) but renting as just easy when we were starting out. Our first apartment was a 2 bedroom unit (one big bedroom and one small bedroom) with no railings on the staircase. The second one is almost the same, first and second apartment is located on the same compound. Third apartment is the one we’re renting now. It’s bigger than the first and second one but it’s a two bedroom unit still.
I can say I am quite happy with this place but you know there are times that I wish we already have our own house. So what is the pros and cons of renting out?
The pros, it’s cheaper to shell out the rent than monthly amortization. Of course in the long run, it turns to be a con. Renting out will give you a feel of how it is to have a house. Think of it as a learning experience You would know what part of the house that needs more investment than the other parts. You will know if a certain material for a kitchen cabinet is durable or not. You can even ask around for discount kitchen cabinets, in case you will start building your own house.
Renting out is like having a house that you can experiment with. A house that will teach you what’s the best option in case you start building your house.

October 23, 2012 at 11:19 amI have a friend who live in an apartment and she told me that she always wanting a house because you do not really have the full power to do what you want like to have a garden. After few years of just renting an apartment now they have a house.

October 23, 2012 at 12:34 pmWe have rented in the first five years of our marriage and transferred from one apartment after another four times! What I don’t like about transferring are the appliances and furniture that get destroyed in transit. 🙁
I love being a homeowner in a way that I don’t have a landlord/lady to deal with. But over time repairs need to be done and there is not landlady to shoulder the bills.

October 23, 2012 at 3:38 pmWe rented for a year in Makati, a 3 bedroom apartment worth Php 14K/monthly. Now, our monthly payment for our Pag-IBIG Housing loan is Php16K. That’s only a 2thousand peso difference so it’s still within our budget. Plus, having a Pag-IBIG loan increases our dividends.

October 23, 2012 at 7:20 pmWe’ve moved to different places over the course of 16 years until we finally found our place here in Ortigas. It’s so tiring! I’m just happy that we now have our own sweet home, albeit small.

October 31, 2012 at 9:00 amThere is much security in having one’s own home, no matter how small because rent is more of an expense while amortization is an investment. What you say is true however that one can experiment with the possibilities that can be applied in our own house.

October 31, 2012 at 10:32 pmWe’re lucky enough to have a house already, courtesy of the in-laws, of course I do have to share it with my MIL for now, but that’s okay, it beats having to pay rent or amortization. 😛
