My kids are not allowed to use the computer as much as possible.. we only allow them for about an hour once a week and sometimes once a month.. aside from the fact that if I allow them to use it, they would mess my work place, I just do no not like the idea of them being exposed to computer at this early age. Yes, this age is all about computers but I still do believe that my kids can have a normal life without being exposed to computer at an early age. There is always the right time for everything.. after all they already have their computer subject in their school.. there is no sense being techy if your kids are unhealthy.
So for Mommy Moments this week where in the theme is techy tips, I only have one.. never ever leave your child alone in the PC.. and as much as possible do not expose them to it.. The right age, I think is 7 years old. My first born is now allowed to have his FB account given the fact that I monitor his friend and all the people he interact with.. OK wait, I said I only have one techy tip.. that’s another one.. always monitor your child’s internet actions..
During the Parentin.TV 2nd anniversary, one of the topics discussed was Internet Addiction and it’s quite alarming how a child can learn a lot on the internet. And because of that I am getting more careful with the kids and the internet.. even on gadgets.. they no longer play with an Ipod or any gaming console and if ever I will buy an Iphone, I will have it an iphone 3g cases that the kids can’t open.. well except for playing on PS3 from time to time.. but yeah my tip is still the same.. never ever leave yuor kids unattended..
And oh, please do throw away ny of your GTA (Gran Theft Auto) games.. it’s the most disturbing game I ever heard.

September 16, 2011 at 1:18 pmI agree, never ever leave your kids unattended whenever they use the internet. My daughter is 9 and have only started to use the computer as well, but never alone, I also monitor her internet activities and I am the only one allowed to approve her friend requests on Facebook. She’s also only allowed to use it during the weekends, never on weekdays.
LOLs! I love GTA.. 😛 I like shooting people.. 😛 It’s kind of a stress reliever, but I’m an adult and I don’t play it when my kids are awake, I haven’t played in quite a while, I miss shooting people and stealing cars.. LOL sa game lang ha, may angst ako na sa games ko lang nalalabas.. 😛 hehehe
Lucas is 3 but I do let him play with my iPhone, dati may iPod sya but it was stolen.. 🙁 I only have harmless games naman on my iPhone but Lucas usually just listens to the audio books and watches countless Sesame Street episodes I’ve downloaded for him.. 😀

September 16, 2011 at 2:32 pmAmen to that Peh. I agree that although the internet is a great resource for knowledge, it poses a risk to kids as well. No holds barred, that’s what the internet is. And besides, why expose them to tech gadgets so early when they have the rest of their adult lives to enjoy it?

September 18, 2011 at 12:42 pmGreat tips! It’s amazing how all of us parents realized how computers play a role in our kids’ life. If we don’t set control on it, mapariwara talaga mga kids natin.
Visiting for MM. I also share my own Techie Tips. You are welcome to drop by mine! 🙂

September 21, 2011 at 3:45 amchildren can learn a lot of good things on the net with proper guidance, but can learn all sorts of bad things if left unattended. And yes, I don’t like GTA too, it is forever banned in our household. 🙂

October 14, 2011 at 9:42 amI wholeheartedly agree with your points, but to throw away GTA, which incidentally is my favorite game, is way too harsh.
