That was what I wrote during the Toblerone’s Thank You Global Pinoy Awards launching. A pretty lady approached us and asked us to write a Thank You Note.. and that day I was really thankful for my mother..
THANK YOU is a word that I always teach my kids.. even my youngest baby knows hot say thank you (and please).. but do you know that in 2007, in Reader’s Digest poll, Manila ranked as one of the least courteous cities in the world? Well, Toblerone challenged that and staged the first ever “National Thank You Day” on October 20, 2007. In 2009, from personal gratitude, Toblerone raised the bar to bigger perspective and involved the whole country with their “The Thank You Day Awards.” The nation paid tribute to public figures Manny Pacquiao, Francis Magalona, Dolphy, Daniel Razon and Cory Aquino. This year, 2011, Toblerone wants to thank our modern day heroes, “Thank You Global Pinoy Awards”.
But who is our modern day hero?
Definitely not Andres Bonifacio nor our national hero Dr Jose Rizal.. Our modern day heroes are those who are sacrificing to fulfill the dream of their families and also helped in country’s economic security through their remittances.. our modern day heroes are the OFWs.
That’s what Toblerone’s Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is all about:
The Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is an initiative that seeks to search for the most outstanding global Filipino workers who deserve the gratitude not only of their loved ones; but also of the nation as a whole. It is primarily led by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO)—the government agency tasked to promote and uphold the interests of Filipino emigrants and permanent residents abroad and Toblerone as the key proponent of Thank You Day in 2007.
Duty Free Chief Operating Officer Mr. Lorenzo Formoso explains, “We have always been committed to satisfy the shopping needs of the international traveler in an efficient service environment showcasing the Filipino traits of warmth, hospitality and gratitude. We support the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards because it is a good channel to promote our intrinsic Filipino trait of showing appreciation.”
Special Rewards Passport was also launched that night. The passport can be used to redeem gifts from partner establishments every time users do their shopping or go on vacation. Through this promo, Toblerone shows its appreciation to Global Pinoys by not only recognizing their efforts online, but also giving them a pasalubong that they can enjoy with their family.

September 4, 2011 at 1:40 pmIt was so nice of toblerone to give so much appreciation for our modern day heroes, actually I’ve been one of them, proud to become an OFW for almost 6 years, and I still remember my father who I’m so thankful for all his sacrifices, for 17 years he also became our modern day hero, actually my personal hero, for saving me from being illiterate, for opening my heart and mind to become a responsible person,I really to have a wonderful dad. I still remember, everytime a certain balikbayan came home, TOBLERONE is always present for every “pasalubong” so as my dad and me also,as if that chocolate symbolizes an OFW, a balikbayan, a modern day HERO.

September 5, 2011 at 9:28 amI really hope I could have gone with you to the event. It sounds fun and memorable.
My hero would be my father. He was very instrumental in who and what I am today and the choices that I continue to make. 😀
I so love this move from Toblerone and Duty Free. It really shows appreciation for all our Filipino workers.

September 6, 2011 at 8:47 pmFor me, of course my parents are my living hero. Simple explanation lang why for me they are my modern hero, dahil pinalaki nila kami ng tama; God-fearing childrens, supportive with each other & without them we’re not here. =)
Ako din i have 3 kids, & i always teach them to say thank you kahit na sa 1yr old baby ko. =)

September 9, 2011 at 10:04 pmIn our household, please and thank you are the magic words, I make sure my kids know when to say both these words because really, we can make someone’s day by just saying “thanks” and more people will be willing to do anything for us if we say “please” more often.. 🙂
