I already published an article about how we named our kids but since Mommy Moments is asking for it, I will make one again. I love talking about my kids and how we got their names. More often than not, we are asked if we came from the Muslim community. The kids are named in a very unique way, a combination of Russian and Indian names. My hubby wants a Russian name and I on the other hand was very amazed with Indian names. I find Indian names very appealing and very unique. It is such a challenge to look for an Indian name that is not that alien to Filipino tongue. I am not one of those parents who are extreme when it comes to naming babies. I want their names to be unique and yet not beyond what is normal. If you have to ask why hubby wants a Russian name, oh well, history has it that Russian personalities has been big part of him.
We named our first born child Mikhail Mahat. Mikhail is a Russian version of Michael. Why that name? Again ask the hubby. I found Mahat and liked what it means. It means great and I know then that my son would be great. He is a great Kuya to all his siblings! I alo like how Mahat compliments well with Mikhail.
As for our second boy Marco Mahadev, it was a bit hard finding another Russian-Indian name that would blend well. I found Marco and liked it instantly. Looking for an Indian name was tiring. Every chance I get, I would Google Indian names and pronounce it loudly together with Marco. Finally I found something that fits, Mahadev. Marco is the Russian variation of Mark which means God of War. Mahadev base on my research means, god of all gods (wew!).
Then our third boy, another story of brain draining, neuron burning search for a Russian- Indian name. Since I already started it with the MM combination, my OCD will not let it happen that I name the third boy any other name. It should be again an MM Russian-Indian combo. Mikhail Mahat in syllables has a 3-2 combo while Marco Mahadev has a 2-3 combo (in syllables), I thought of looking for 3-2 combo MM Russian Indian name for the third boy. First and third is an odd number so it should be that their names have the same syllables combo. And if I have plans on having a fourth one (in which I believe is a boy again) it should have a 2-3 combo like that of the second boy. Oh gosh, this is how my OCD works. It’s crazy, I know. Eventually I gave up and just look for a name that fits and blends well. I am lucky again because I found, Melor. The meaning? Hmm.. it’s a modern Russian names that is an acronym of Marx, Engels, Lenin, October, Revolution (ops!). As for Moulik, I really like that name, it its pronounced as Malik. I like it more because of how It is spelled. Forgot what it means. So that’s why Chico is named Melor Moulik
And now for our one and only chica, as early as my first pregnancy, we already had a name for a girl. As it is, it should be a Russian-Indian combo. I had Sofia Ananta in mind. Sofia is a Russian var of Sophia which means wisdom. Ananta is about beauty I think. They sound so good together don’t you think?
Their nicknames are a bit different form their full names. I had that from my mom. My mom used other names as our nicknames. And so for Mikhail Mahat, his nickname is Kayil. Marco Mahadev, we call him Mico and Melor Moulik, we fondly call him Chico. Sometimes we call Chico, chiclet, short for Chico kulet.. haha.. And for Sofia Ananta, I have Matrix to thank for the cool nick, Sati. Remember in the Matrix revolution? The girl who met Neo? Her name is Sati, it means enlightenment.
And you know what’s the best part of it all? My OCD says two thumbs up for their names. See?
Marco Mahadev 3-2
Melor Moulik 2-2
Sofia Ananta3-3
So, how about you? How did you name your kids?
