Chico suffered from Atopic dermatitis, it took us some ointments and some bottles of moisturizing lotion to treat it. Now he’s free from it and we still continue using moisturizing lotion to prevent it from happening again. Sati on the other hand has snake skin on her legs (it’s super dry to the point that becomes scaly, hence the term, snake skin). We scrub her twice a week and also use the same moisturizing lotion to treat the skin. It takes a lot of patience to treat the skin condition but slowly, her skin is getting better.. and smoother!
The most common baby skin disease my kids experienced was bungang araw. Specially now that the summer is approaching.. we really have to be more careful and be extra conscious with their skin. To prevent it, we always give them a bath twice during the summer months and they only wear cotton shirts. We also make sure that their back, specially their nape area are always dry. Bungang araw can be bothersome to kids and sometimes it can lead to infection, so dapat malinis din lagi ang kamay ng mga bagets.
I asked some of my mommy blogger friends to share their tried and tested baby skin care tips:
Mommy Jem of Expereince of a super mommy shared that they use hypoallergenic and mildest baby products for their baby. She also said that she always wash baby’s hand with clean water and keep them dry. Mommy Jem also mentioned that she gives her kids fruits such as oranges and grapes as a natural source of Vitamin C, makes their skin glows and prevent from sickness.
Mommy Badet of The Misis Chronicles said, “I use only use mild and natural products for Gwen. I don’t use baby powder anymore. Thankful that her skin is not that sensitive, so low maintenance.”
Mommy Nicquee of Pop Ups of My Mind mentioned that her youngest has some sort of chicken skin on her tummy and it is triggered by eating “malansa” food and so to prevent it from showing, she changed the diet of her youngest and she also uses only the mildest baby products for her kids.
Mommy Vix of Mumwrites made sure that she only uses the safest baby product for her little man who has a very sensitive skin.
Mommy Sigrid of Lovingly, confesses that because she have allergies, she is rather careful with her kids. The care started during pregnancy, she avoided the food that usually triggers her allergies. As for baby products, she always check if the products are hypo allergenic and uses mild soap and lotion for her kids. As to prevent diaper rashes, Mommy Sigrid said she change diapers when needed and always wipe baby’s bottom each change.
Mommy Peachy: When Ykaie was still baby, I used jelly before putting on her diaper to prevent rashes.
Mommy Serene of Nure’s Diary said she always wash and keep the baby’s bottom dry to prevent diaper rash
Mommy Rikka of Rikx Knows Best also mentioned the use of jelly and constant washing every diaper change.
We were lucky that my kids never experienced diaper rash, I guess it pays that I always make sure that their diaper area is always dry and that I only trust a diaper brand that can protect them from wetness, Pampers. We’re more careful with Sati.. alam nyo naman, nag iisang babae.. and not knowing how to take care for a girl’s bottom, it helps talaga to know that Pampers has 5 star skin protection:
- 12 Hours Dryness. Pampers Active keeps baby’s skin touchably dry for up t 12 hours.
- Baby Lotion. Pampers Active diaper is infused with aloe lotion to help prevent diaper rash.
- Cottony Softness. Keep baby’s skin free from imitation with cotton-like softness.
- Breathable Cover. Air circulates so baby’s skin can breathe easily and stay wonderfully fresh.
- Comfortable Fit. A flexible, side stretch design keeps it snug and comfy whether baby is at rest or play.
Yes, she’s still on diapers.. pag malamig ang gabi and for long travels.. and when it comes to long travel (like 6 hours+) I am at peace knowing her bottom is in good hands..err I mean diaper haha
