How far will you go to give your child the best? How do you boost his ‘intelligence’ to make sure he achieves excellence in more fields than one?
But when we say intelligence, what does it mean? Is it as simple as when your child got a high IQ test score, it means she/he is intelligent? So what about those (eherm eherm) that only got an average score on IQ tests? What are we? Not intelligent?
BIG TIME OUCHY no?
Good thing, (specially on our ego and to our kids!) Howard Gradner , Hobbs professor of education and cognition at the Harvard Graduate School of Education believes that intelligence is more complex than we think.
THANK YOU HOWARD GARDNER!
Howard Gardner, Hobbs professor of education and cognition at the Harvard Graduate School of Education believes that intelligence is more complex than we think. “It was generally believed that intelligence was a single entity that was inherited, and that human beings – initially a blank state – could be trained to learn anything, provided that it was presented in an appropriate way,” said Gardner in his landmark work Frames of Mind, The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. “Nowadays, an increasing number of researchers believe precisely the opposite; that there exists a multitude of intelligences, quite independent of each other, that each intelligence has its own strengths and constraints…”
Gardner’s theory eventually gave rise to what is known as multiple intelligence – simply put it is brain smart, body smart and people smart. The theory questions the idea that intelligence is a single entity, that it results from a single factor and that it can be measured simply via IQ tests.
So how do you know which intelligence your child exhibits? And what can you do to help them enhance it? Here’s a few guide:
So what do you have? brain smart? body smart or people smart?
Now, here’s the fun part!!
